A consultancy grounded in bespoke, discrete sectoral insight and legal expertise.

Dr. Bev Williamson

Founder

Founded by Dr. Beverley Williamson, Weyward Competition offers refined, sector-specific services in competition law and regulatory strategy, tailored to the needs of the professional sports, leisure and luxury goods industries.  Prior to establishing Weyward Competition, Dr. Williamson served as Head of Unit for Antitrust Investigations and Competition Intelligence at a national a competition authority, and later as a competition specialist for a Tier 1 corporate law firm.  Her approach is informed not only by deep technical expertise but by direct operational experience, having also held the role of Compliance Officer with a Premiership rugby club, and having assisted a number of Championship rugby clubs on bespoke competition and governance matters.

This blend of legal knowledge and practical understanding allows her to navigate the nuanced regulatory and reputational challenged that high-performance environments demand.  Her connection to elite sport and luxury goods is both professional and personal, shaped by a life spent at the intersection of performance, risk and brand identity.

Bev's academic research includes work on competitive dynamics in labour markets in the luxury goods sector, and the role of leniency and compliance in the antitrust and merger control regulatory space.  Her work on the role of competition law within professional sports has been cited in the UK Parliament and reflects her commitment to thought leadership at the highest level.

Weyward Competition partners with ambitious, brand-led organisations to turn compliance into a strategic asset, elevating operational confidence while safeguarding long-term value.

Dr Beverley Williamson is the founder of the European League of Sports Antitrust, and a member Women@Competition, Women in Sports Law (WISLaw), the Ligue internationale du Droit de la Concurrence (the International League of Competition Law) and the International Sports Lawyer Association.

Thought & Theory

Dr. Williamson's academic work reflects a longstanding commitment to understanding the deeper structures of competition and enforcement.  Her published work spans leniency and deterrence, sustainability in merger control, labour market issues in luxury goods, and the boundaries of anticompetitive conduct in professional sport.

Her doctorate, awarded by the University of Newcastle, explores the regulatory dynamics of anti-cartel enforcement across hybrid regimes.
